Excellent Service. I have taken five of my pets to Powell Animal Hospital over ten years time. I feel that my pets have received excellent care there. They have always been available to me for appointments when I am concerned, even with very little notice. I have always been able to promptly reach a doctor on call with emergency questions when I have needed to do so. My pets have all had surgery there on several occasions, and I feel that their surgeons are very reputable and appear to have a good reputation with other vets in the area and at UT Veterinary hospital. If a given vet does not feel he or she is skilled with a procedure they will defer to one who is. The one time that I had a bad experience ( I felt I that my concerns were treated cursorily by another provider there), I complained to one of the front staff and much to my surprise that vet called me at home, apologized, and talked to me at length about my pet's problem. I have used their boarding with no problems and good availability. They control their waiting room so that the wait is rarely excessive, and when it is there is usually an emergency going on or it is Saturday and there is only one doctor there. Their front staff actually calls to check on my animals when they are sick. I have never had this kind of service from another veterinarians office or from a human doctor's office for that matter. They are a little more expensive than some vets in the immediate area, but I am willing to pay for this kind of excellent service. Thank you Powell Animal Hospital.
Awful Experience.
Went here one time while looking for a new vet. Took dog in for Distemper vaccine. Was talked into 3 year distemper vaccine and bloodwork. Let them take dog in back room to draw blood - NEVER EVER trust a vet who has to draw blood from your dog NOT in your presence. Brought him out and within a couple of minutes, dog went into total shock, body literally froze (could not bend legs, etc.) eyes would not focus, he drooled non-stop & urinated and pooped without control. I stayed for 1/2 hour, then had to leave him with vet because there was nothing to do but wait. It was another 1 hour before I could take him home & he did live. They could do nothing for him because they did not know what happened. Could they have done something?
WELL, they drew urine from his bladder with a needle WITHOUT ASKING ME. The blood draw from his neck was so bad that he was severely bruised (dark red & bloody looking) for 2 weeks. My dog was totally healthy and they nearly killed him due to gross incompetence. He seems to have had no long term effects - as it has been approx. 1.5 years now.
