Almost Ruined My Party!.
NEVER take a party of more than 6 to Tomato Head they simply have no desire or ability to serve large parities. I CALLED AHEAD ON FRIDAY, and three hours ahead (as instructed to do by their staff) on Saturday. Only to show up early and wait outside for my party to arrive. Their staff was incredibly rude and incompetent across the board. Rather than allowing my party to wait outside until all members arrived the obnoxious host kept harassing my and stating all these reasons he could not seat my party until all members arrived. WE WERE COMPLETELY AWARE OF THIS! He proceed to harass me every five minutes for thirty minutes until I could tell my business was not wanted.
DO NOT TAKE LARGE PARTIES TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT. They'll will say they can accommodate a large group but once there, they become so condescending you are forced to leave.
Mahasti, should be ashamed of what she has allowed her establishment to become. This restaurant is plagued with poor staffing choices and poor management across the board. It is staffed with nothing but wanna be hipsters who are as stale as the blue corn chips, that are allowed to set out in the open air all day, that this establishment serves.
I once loved this restaurant. Now, the owner's lack of oversight and poor staffing choices have ruined this establishment. I wonder how much longer she'll be able to keep pulling the wool over everyone's eyes and keep this farce going?
I miss what this restaurant used to be! It used to be a visionary restaurant with a stellar owner! This said, I've never been treated rudely by the staff in Maryville. Maybe she should scrap the Market Square location entirely, because IT IS KILLING the branding of what her concept is supposed to be.
In the future, I will only go to the Maryville location and with no more than four people. So, thanks Tomato Head for ALMOST ruining my birthday. Just like everyone else in Knoxville, I know I have many other choices.
Pizza & Southwest salad.
OK, listen up everyone. If you have not tried the Tomato Head, you are missing out on some great food.
The pizza dough is light and ingredients are fresh and numerous and on the exotic side-try the goat cheese!
Also, the guys that fiz the pizzas get on the artistic kick and make some of the most beautiful pies.
Additionally, the Southwest chicken salad with black beans is awesome. I have them add red onions and the dressing is a kick!
If you are into beer, they have a nice selection of micros and imports! The price can get a little high, but for what you get it is worth it and DO NOT SKIMP ON THE TIPS BECAUSE THESE KIDS WORK HARD!!!20%
Fun and Simple. This little restaurant is a cute little spot on the middle of downtown Knoxville and it's great. On a cold day you can eat inside in the cozy atmosphere where you order at the front and they'll bring it to your table, but on a nice day you can sit outside and enjoy the really good food. For picky eaters they have the "norms" like cheese pizza, or a ham and cheese sandwich, but for those looking for a different taste they have tons of choices. They also have a lot of vegetarian friendly food. They show case different artists on the wall, so the place is always changing, and it is often kind of noisy because it is so close the campus, but it's not too bad (you can still have a normal conversation with out shouting). Overall, it is great food and is definitely an experience and I would recommend it to any visiting Knoxville! The also have a website if you want to check it out in a little more detail!
Best Pizza in the Smokies!. This is one hopping pizza place!!! It was crowded, but I did not mind. The servers are very friendly and very helpful. We did not have too much time to wait, so we had a carry out and then ate it outside at one of the countless tables in the market square. Absolutely wonderful atmosphere to go with the very delicious, mouth-watering, finger licking good pizza!!!! Worth driving all the way into downtown Knoxville!! We plan on stopping there every time we pass through Knoxville on our way to the Southern US and back!
A reason to drive downtown!.
Most Knoxvillians think of downtown as a place
to avoid, rather than a destination, what with the
poor parking, and the "local color" that can sometimes
be seen carted off in paddy wagons. Nonetheless,
Tomato Head is a reason to leave your Kingston Pike comfort zone, and venture into Market Square. The
decor is eclectic but pleasant. The signature pizzas are excellent -- go for the #3 (lamb sausage, capers and sundried tomatoes). It's vegetarian-friendly, yet also good for the carnivore. Ingredients are fresh. The staff are an excellent combination of friendly and bohemian. Here's one of the few places in town where you'll see ties and nose rings co-mingling happily.
Highly recommended!
