Consistent, Reliable, Good Value. This one moved to a new building in 2008. Waffle House restaurants are not to be confused with Cracker Barrel restaurants. They're plain; don't sell trinkets or rocking chairs. But their service is almost universally good and quick, their food is basic and almost universally good, and the prices are reasonable. What more do you want? We love 'em, and there are several good ones around Knoxville, TN.

Since 1955, this Atlanta-based chain has welcomed an all-hours crowd of shift workers, suits, regulars and late-night partiers with comfy booths and an extensive menu of Southern-accented home-style grub. Waffles (pecan or regular) are the restaurant's most popular dish. Other breakfast favorites include porterhouse T-bone steak and eggs, country ham, and signature hash browns cooked seven ways, from smothered with onions to topped with chili or cheese. Another bargain is the bowl of chili, which comes topped with onions, ham and cheese.
