The location, clean, and professional appearance of the salon encouraged my hopes for a quality cut and coloring experience. In addition, I asked for hi-lites for some contrast. I still don't know what went wrong, although it did seem that my processing time was rather short. In any event, after Anna rinsed the coloring solution out of my hair and prepared to cut my hair, it was obvious that my hair was not only lighter than it had been, but that no hi-lites were visible. She continued to talk nonstop, which was mildly bothersome, and briefly mentioned that she could see the line between where my roots had shown and where previous color had been, and that she would need to fix that so no line would be apparent. She finished cutting my hair, and applied more color to my hair followed by another waiting/processing period. When this again failed to "take", in what was obviously a last-ditch effort, she slathered some sort of brownish goop on my hair, talking quickly about how she knew "all about coloring hair" and would "fix it". She left the goop on for a few minutes; after washing that out, my hair was only slightly darker, but she dried and styled it anyway. By the time she was done, I had been there for 3 hours - much longer than any appt. I'd ever had for the same services. Finally my hair was done, and she acted like it was "beautiful". I was doubtful, but she assured me it would look good in the outside light. At first she tried to bill me $200 and when I started in shock ,she lowered it by $25. Still unhappy but tired and hungry, I paid her and left, hoping my hair would look OK enough. When I got home, it was obvious that my hair was not only too light, but that any hi-lites were not visible. In addition, the cut was unflattering, and my hair dry and brittle - unlike its typical silky feel after being colored and hi-lited. I later called the salon to complain and request my money back, saying I needed to have my hair redone, but was told that was not possible since their stylists were all "independent contractors". I countered, asking whether they did not have a quality control standard for their salon. I was told that my complaint would be given to the owner/manager when she returned, and that she would contact me the following day. I received no phone call from the manager, and wrote off the experience as a loss and a lesson that this was a place I would never recommend or return to. Had the salon made a good faith attempt to undo the substandard services I received, I would have a much better feeling about their business and would even consider returning. Instead, I ended up paying $100 two weeks later (finally realizing I couldn't stand the way my hair looked for another 3 weeks until the roots grew out again) at a salon I knew was well-respected, for an excellent cut, color, and flattering hi-lites. I would never recommend this salon to anyone.
